"Fit 4 Life is basically my home away from home. It's where I come to offer up the daily sacrifice of comfort for the salvation offered through hard work and consistency. I've put a lot of work in over the years to build my body up from 140 to 200 lbs, but only in the past six months has the real work began: the battle for sobriety.
For the past couple of decades I hit the bottle like a boxer hits a heavy bag and I had some great times with Uncle Jim and Uncle Jack, but I'm turning 40 next year and it seemed like the right time to put in for alcoholic retirement. So, the day after the Superbowl this year, I put away the spirits and doubled-down on the workouts. Within three months I was down 20 pounds and now I feel better and stronger than I did when I was a teenager. I'm coming up on half-a-year without alcohol, and it's been one of the best periods of my life.
I get to the gym almost everyday around 4:30, put in an hour under the iron and leave with the confidence I need to take on the rest of the day. My commitment to my family is stronger, my relationships with my children are better and my outlook on life has taken a 180-degree turn for the positive. I don't think this would be possible without the gym, and this one is the best around; an "Iron Church," if you will...
I believe exercise is the best route to gain and maintain alchemy in life. The ability to change your body is proof that you own it; it doesn't own you. Your mind and spirit will follow suit."
